Strike a Balance..

Finding the right balance for you is key to your long-term success, whilst everyone is different, here’s a nice short list of things that need to be balanced with regards to exercise and nutrition:

· Balancing short term gratification (think: treat foods, alcohol, partying etc) with long-term gratification (success in education, personal development, sporting success, work promotions, long term weight loss etc). For me personally, I’ve always loved to party, but I’ve found if I do it too frequently other aspects of my life start to deteriorate. For others it might be snacks and treats, if you’re having highly calorie dense foods and treats on a daily basis, you might be slipping further from a much more rewarding feeling of changing your body and feeling more confident and happier as a result.

· Work Vs Social - it’s a classic for a reason, it’s great to take pleasure out of work, but socialising with your friends & family is an essential behaviour not an optional one. Being in a positive mindset is way more important than having the perfect plan.

· Sitting vs Standing/Moving - I’ve covered in more detail in my NEAT blog but, standing and moving throughout the day is important for your physical and mental wellbeing and it is hands down my favourite way to help my clients address then “Energy Out” side of the weight loss equation.

· Analogue vs Digital - sometimes you’ve got make life that little bit more challenging for the greater good. If you’re driving everywhere, ordering food on an app, dropping your clothes at a laundrette you’re removing small tasks from your day that can all add up to churn through a lot of calories. If your energy output is low, sustaining a calorie deficit for weight loss is going to be difficult.

· Exercising vs Resting - I’ll keep banging this drum, you don’t need a really intense exercise regime for great results. Start modestly, maintain, be consistent & build from there. You can achieve a huge amount with relatively small-time commitment (2-3 hours of actual exercise per week is an amazing starting place).
